Growing in faith requires understanding where we are in our spiritual journey and taking intentional steps toward maturity. Just as children grow through different developmental stages, believers also progress through stages of spiritual growth.

What Does Spiritual Growth Look Like?

Spiritual growth begins when we accept Christ and are "born again." Like newborns, new believers start as spiritual infants - completely dependent on others for spiritual nourishment and guidance. As we grow, we move through stages of spiritual childhood toward maturity.

What Are the Signs of Spiritual Childhood?

Spiritual children often display these characteristics:

Selfishness and self-centeredness

Being either overconfident or underconfident

Making rigid rules and regulations

Thinking maturity comes just from time spent in church

Easily upset and unable to see the bigger picture

What Do We Need to Mature Spiritually?

Three key elements are needed for spiritual growth:

Connection with God through His Word and prayer

Connection with other believers in small groups

Understanding God's purpose for your life

How Do We Move from Consumption to Contribution?

The key transition from spiritual childhood to maturity is moving from merely consuming to actively contributing:

Serving others instead of just being served

Looking for ways to meet others' needs

Using your spiritual gifts to build up the church

Participating in deep relationships that foster growth

Life Application

This week, evaluate where you are in your spiritual journey:

Are you still in spiritual infancy, dependent on others for growth?

Are you stuck in spiritual childhood, focused mainly on yourself?

Are you ready to move toward maturity by serving others?

Questions to consider:

What is holding you back from spiritual growth?

How can you begin contributing rather than just consuming?

What relationships do you need to develop to foster spiritual maturity?

Take action by:

Joining a small group for spiritual growth

Finding ways to serve others in your church

Developing daily habits of Bible reading and prayer

Building relationships with mature believers who can guide you

Remember: There's no shortcut to spiritual maturity, but with intentional steps and the right connections, you can grow into the mature believer God designed you to be.
