Living with integrity as a Christian means embracing honesty through three key elements: simplicity, transparency, and integrity itself. While the world often views truth as situational, God's Word remains the only absolute truth we can rely on.
Integrity comes from the word meaning "entire" or "whole." It means not living a double life or being double-minded. As Christians, we often wear different masks depending on our situation - at work, with family, or with different friend groups. However, true integrity requires consistency in who we are across all circumstances.
Jesus delivered His message with:
Simplicity - Letting your yes be yes and your no be no
Transparency - Being genuine and authentic
Integrity - Living consistently with His teachings
According to John 3:19-21, people often "loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." We naturally want to hide our wrongdoings rather than bring them into the light. However, those who live in truth come into the light willingly, knowing their deeds are done through God.
The only way to truly live with integrity is by having Christ living in you. When we become Christians:
We receive a new heart
We become a new creation
The old passes away and the new comes
We gain the ability to leave a lasting legacy
Jesus said "you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32). When we confess our sins:
God forgives completely
He casts our sins as far as east is from west
We can live free from guilt and shame
We can extend forgiveness to others
This week, challenge yourself to:
Examine areas where you might be wearing different "masks" in different situations
Ask yourself:
Am I being consistent in who I am across all circumstances?
Are there areas where I need to bring things into the light?
How can I better represent Christ in my daily interactions?
Commit to living with simple honesty, letting your yes be yes and your no be no
Remember: Living with integrity isn't about perfection, but about consistently pursuing truth and allowing Christ to work through you. Start each day by asking God to help you be an authentic representative of His love and truth.
