Every believer goes through different stages of spiritual growth, much like physical development from infancy to maturity. Understanding these stages helps us recognize where we are and what steps we need to take to continue growing in our faith.
There are four main stages in spiritual development, represented by different chairs at God's table:
The Black Chair - Spiritually Dead
The High Chair - Spiritual Infant
The Child's Chair - Spiritual Child
The Adult Chair - Spiritual Young Adult
The Parent Chair - Spiritual Parent
Moving through these stages requires intentional growth and commitment. The key is not how long you've been a Christian, but rather your willingness to:
Take responsibility for your spiritual development
Get involved in small groups and church community
Serve others and contribute to ministry
Share Christ with others
Build relationships with both spiritual mentors and those you can mentor
Spiritual maturity is characterized by:
Being intentional about building relationships
Having a strong prayer life
Maintaining calm during life's storms
Focusing on others' spiritual growth
Having a desire to give more than receive
Sharing Christ naturally with others
Taking initiative to serve without being asked
Small groups provide:
A place for nurturing and development
Opportunities to learn from others' experiences
Accountability and encouragement
A space to practice spiritual gifts
Community and fellowship
Support during difficult times
This week, take these steps toward spiritual growth:
Honestly assess which spiritual chair you're currently sitting in
Join a small group if you're not already in one
Find one way to serve others in your church or community
Identify someone who can mentor you spiritually
Questions to Consider:
What's holding me back from moving to the next stage of spiritual growth?
Am I taking responsibility for my spiritual development?
How can I contribute to others' spiritual growth?
What specific steps do I need to take this week to grow closer to God?
Remember: Spiritual growth isn't about age or time - it's about obedience and availability to God's leading in your life.
