Devotional
We all start our spiritual journey in a place of darkness, trying to fill the emptiness in our hearts with various pursuits. These pursuits, whether they are material possessions, achievements, or relationships, often leave us feeling more empty and lost. Nicodemus, a religious leader, came to Jesus at night, symbolizing his own spiritual darkness and curiosity about the truth. Just like Nicodemus, we must recognize our own spiritual darkness and our need for something greater. Reflect on the areas in your life where you feel empty or unfulfilled. Acknowledge that these feelings are a sign of your need for a deeper, spiritual connection with God.
Bible Verse
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. - John 3:19
Reflection Question What are the areas in your life where you feel empty or unfulfilled, and how can you bring these areas into the light of God's truth?
John 8.37-39
37 On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! 38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” 39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)
Quote Night is also a metaphor of our spiritual condition. Darkness. But when you come to Christ our darkness is changed to light!
1 Peter 2.9-10
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
10 “Once you had no identity as a people;
now you are God’s people.
Once you received no mercy;
now you have received God’s mercy.”
Prayer Lord, help me to recognize the areas of darkness in my life. Open my eyes to see the emptiness that only You can fill. Guide me towards Your light and truth. Amen.
